What is a Hot Spot?

Hot Spots are areas within public venues such as parks, airports, hotels, retail stores, coffee shops etc. where patrons that carry a laptop or PDA can gain high-speed access to the Internet using a wireless technology known as Wi-Fi®. The laptop or PDA users of the Wi-Fi® network receive broadband access to the Internet in waiting areas, business centers, a restaurant tabletop, hotel rooms or any other area within a venue in which Wi-Fi® coverage is available.

Wi-Fi®, which is short for "Wireless Fidelity", is an interoperability certification for wireless local area network (LAN) products based on the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 standard.

Technology Specialists, the Fort Wayne area’s leading experts in delivering Internet access over license-exempt microwave radio technology, operates a series of "Hot Spots" under their SHEERConnection brand.

While the product is in the introduction phase there is no charge for its use, but users must agree to a license agreement (basically a hold-harmless agreement) and are bandwidth-limited.

The current marketing plan calls for limited no-charge usage and fee-based upgrades for additional bandwidth or features.

Technology Specialists is looking for potential partners who are willing to host SHEERConnection Hot Spots. Our ideal candidates would be hotel, restaurant or bar owners who are looking for a low-cost way to add a complementary service as a marketing advantage to entice customers to enter and remain at their facilities.
